„Memory under the tilt” is the story of a Polish Gypsy who came in Romania with a caravan of carts and settled in Hunedoara County. Although he got used to the steady living and the comfort of a big house, build in the neighborhood of the Gypsy palaces from Hășdat (Hunedoara), the old man kept in his heart the memory of the nomadic life. Moreover, he rebuild, piece by piece, in one of the rooms of his big house, the cart with which he wandered more kilometers than a lot of the modern cars can go. He kept in the wagon the whole trousseau they needed on the road – pillows, blankets – it helped them sleep in the open, protected only by tilt made from fabric. In the memory of that life, the old man painted on the walls of his house scenes in which Roma women were fortunetelling for Romanian women and he carved in marble the image of his wife, near their cart and today the small statue lays in front of his house in Hunedoara.
