Roma Icons
An exhibition was held in Budapest, at the House of Hungarian Photographers, entitled „Roma Icons, New York – Budapest 1996-2011”. Visitors could admire the paintings of Erika Lakatos, who – in 1997 – was awarded Best Photographer of the Year, in Washington. The artist wants to touch not only Roma spectators, but wants to achieve a form of communication that would help in understanding and accepting each other. According to historian of arts Tímea Junghaus, Erika Lakatos is an emblematic figure in Hungarian photography and art, who doesn’t have to stress her Gypsy origins.
